Summit County warns of smoky skies from distant fires

Air quality alert issued as smoke from wildfires in Idaho and Montana moves into the area

Residents advised to take precautions to protect their health

Summit County Public Health has issued an air quality alert for the county due to smoke from wildfires burning in Idaho and Montana. The smoke is expected to linger in the area for several days and could cause health problems for some people.

The smoke can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat, and can also cause coughing and wheezing. People with asthma or other respiratory conditions are particularly vulnerable to the effects of smoke.

Summit County Public Health recommends that people take the following precautions to protect their health:

  • Stay indoors as much as possible.
  • Keep windows and doors closed.
  • Use an air purifier to remove smoke particles from the air.
  • Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.
  • Avoid strenuous activity outdoors.

If you experience any symptoms of smoke inhalation, such as coughing, wheezing, or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention immediately.
