Auburn Hires Hugh Freeze as New Head Football Coach

Former Ole Miss and Liberty Coach Returns to SEC

Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen Makes Official Announcement

After an extensive search process following the firing of Bryan Harsin, Auburn University has officially announced the hiring of Hugh Freeze as its new head football coach. Freeze, a former head coach at Ole Miss and Liberty, returns to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) after a successful stint at Liberty.

Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen expressed his excitement about the hiring: "We are thrilled to welcome Hugh Freeze to Auburn University. His proven track record of success, both on and off the field, aligns perfectly with the values of our program. We believe that Coach Freeze has the experience and leadership skills to guide our football team to new heights."

Freeze resigned from Ole Miss in 2017 amidst a scandal involving NCAA violations and personal misconduct. However, he rebuilt his reputation at Liberty, leading the Flames to three bowl game appearances and a Top 25 ranking in 2022. Freeze's return to the SEC marks his second stint in the conference, where he previously won two SEC Western Division championships at Ole Miss.

Auburn's hiring of Freeze is expected to inject new energy into the program, which has struggled in recent years. The Tigers have not won an SEC title since 2010 and have only finished with a winning record twice since then. Freeze's aggressive play-calling and ability to recruit top talent should provide an immediate boost to the team.
