The 1898-99 Season: A Historic Beginning
The story of Manchester City Football Club began in 1880 with the founding of St. Mark's (West Gorton) in Ardwick, a district of Manchester, England. In 1894, the club moved to a new ground in Clayton and adopted the name Ardwick Association Football Club.
In 1899, Ardwick AFC gained promotion to the First Division, the top tier of English football at the time. This marked a significant milestone in the club's history and laid the foundation for its future successes.
